I took the early morning
Lux Express bus from Warsaw to
Vilnius. Although it was a 7-hour trip, it gave me time to catch up
with some work as the bus had good Wi-Fi connection. Also, each seat had a
TV screen where I was able to watch some movies. The fare was
approximately CAD$25 each way.
We stayed at
City Gate Hotel
which was 1 km south from the Vilnius Bus Station. The hotel was
50 meters away from the
Gates of Dawn which was the main entrance of the
Old City.
The old city had some of the main attractions like
Pilies Street and
Vilnius Cathedral Basilica. Even the most famous landmark in Vilnius,
Gediminas Tower,
was easy to spot since it was on top of the hill and was within the confines
of the old city.
We had a great dinner at one of the local
pubs where I had my first taste of legally brewed Moonshine. It was
70% alcohol and we had pig ears to munch on. Peter and I had so much
fun that the owner of the restaurant offered us his homemade Moonshine which
was 75% alcohol and was surprisingly very smooth. Met new friends at
the pub Gintare, Ingrida and brothers Karolis and Sarunas.
For obvious reasons, we woke up late the
following day so we had a short walk around the old city again. We
only visited
the
Presidential Palace and the surrounding areas.
