Peter and I took the
Lux Express bus from Vilnius to
Riga. It was a 4 hour ride that cost each of us CAD$51. Upon
arriving at the main bus station at Riga, a cab was waiting for us (which I
pre-booked/pre-paid) that brought us to our hotel,
Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija.
As soon as we got off the bus, I
noticed that the more we approached east towards Russia, the old Eastern
Europe became more evident with old buildings and cranky vehicles.
There was nothing much to see in the city but
Peter told me that Riga was the party place for the British especially for
stag/bachelor parties (news
article). Apparently, a police department was dedicated to monitor
stag parties and the activity had to be registered. During dinner, we saw 2
groups of bachelor party goers who were all dressed up as Mario Brothers
characters and each group had a beautiful female guide. The female
guide was not an escort, rather she monitored the group's activities so they
behaved within acceptable limits.
It was a very easy day for us where we went
to the Old Riga,
House of
Blackheads,
Three
Brothers, and
Riga Marketplace (where the main bus station was). All of these
places were within the 3 km radius from the hotel.
