Last day of my "around the world" trip and Amit and I went to three (3) tourist spots around Munich.  First was a large Mercedes Benz dealership which was a 20 minute walk away from our hotel which was also on the same road of our hotel.  The dealership did not know that they were listed in the Munich tourist guide as one of the city attractions until I actually showed them the guide.  Nonetheless, they were very accommodating and allowed us to tour their facility and took photos.

The only place we were not allowed entry was the display area for Maybach.  It was obvious that appointment was necessary to visit the Maybach area since the price tag (black car with pristine white leather interior) was at EUR494,000.00 (about US$675,000.00) inclusive of taxes.

Since we will be taking a lot of S-Bahn subway system, Amit and I bought a 1 day unlimited partner pass for EUR9.40.  The 1 day partner pass was good for both Amit and myself.  After experiencing the extraordinary train system in Tokyo, Japan, Munich's train system was a no-brainer.  At any rate, we went to the BMW Museum.  Amit wanted to go the the BMW factory tour but reservations had to be made at least 30 days in advance as the booking tour easily got filled up.  The BMW museum, dealership, and the factory plant were just in one belt area at the Olympiazentrum train staton via U3 S-Bahn.  The Munich Olympic Stadium was also in the area but it was drizzling so Amit and I skipped the sport area.

After dazzling our eyes with so many fancy Mercedes and BMW cars, we went to Dachau Concentration Camp. Going there was easy since we had the unlimited pass, we went back to Central station then took the S2 Bahn and got off at Dachau station.  From the station, bus #726 was at the train station and part of its route was the Dachau camp.

The camp reminded me and enlightened Amit of the atrocities of the Nazi regime.  In one of the posters in the concentration camp, "The Nazi regime wanted to create a politically, ideologically and socially conform, "racially pure" and strict hierarchical "national community."  I will never comprehend why would someone just think of such ideology for the heck of it.

The camp was packed with political prisoners and their sleeping quarters were cramped with small bunks.   It used to be a major transfer "hub" for various prisoners where they were separated from their families and transferred to other concentration camps.  There were times when the camp exceeded the number of prisoners and there were many deaths due to lack of food and illness.  There was also a gas chamber built in the area where it was disguised as shower and 150 prisoners at a time were suffocated to death. The the dead bodies were cremated in the several crematoriums that were built in the area.

From the camp, we capped off the night by having our third dinner at another beer hall, at the Augustiner Keller.  Amit had steak and I had a platter of various sausage and pork knuckles.

On October 21, we departed back to Toronto and I celebrated a post birthday gathering on October 23.  The couple Sammy/ Joy Talattad and myself had combined birthday party at my place with our family and friends.

October 24.....started to settle my vacation bills!  Inspite of the expenses, it was more than worth it that I spent a great time with family and friends.

Until the next adventure!
